ERMITA DE LA VIRGEN DE LA PEÑA

The Hermitage of the Virgen de la Peña is the most emblematic sanctuary in Mijas Pueblo and houses the Virgen de la Peña, the town's patron saint. It was carved directly into the rock by a Carmelite monk in the second half of the 17th century. According to tradition, the image of the Virgin was found in this spot in 1586 by two shepherd children guided by a dove. Located next to the Mirador del Compás, it offers a setting of great historical, religious, and scenic value, with panoramic views of the Costa del Sol.
