Barrio de Gion

Kyoto's geisha district, with wooden tea houses, cobbled streets and lanterns. At dusk you can see geikos and maikos on their way to appointments; you must respect their privacy and not photograph them without permission. Walking through Hanamikoji and Shirakawa is free and very evocative.
