The Koutoubia is the great symbol of Marrakesh: its 12th-century Almohad minaret, nearly 77 meters high, served as a model for the Giralda in Seville and the Hassan Tower in Rabat. Surrounded by gardens and palm trees, it can be seen from almost any point in the city and marks the way to Jemaa el Fna square. The interior is reserved for Muslims, but strolling through its gardens at sunset, when the call to prayer sounds and the minaret turns pink, is one of the most beautiful moments in Marrakesh. At night, its illumination turns it into an unforgettable postcard. 📷 Photographs courtesy of Marcin Sochacki (Wanted) (CC BY-SA 4.0) and Daniel Csörföly (CC BY-SA 3.0), via Wikimedia Commons.
